Juliette: 5 Months

Juliette!

Oh we love this girl.

Five months old, and she is (if this is possible) even more a part of our hearts. Seriously she just melts us all like butter in a skillet. Gush gush gush, says her mama. And her Gracie. :)

At five months, Juliette:

Sleeps like a champ. (We all know by now that sleep is my favorite thing to teach my babies, because I love it so much.) She is a wonderful sleeper, and usually goes from 7pm until 7:30am. And daylight savings seems to have perfected her nap schedule, so she now naps once in the morning, once in the early afternoon, and then takes a catnap about the time we all eat dinner.

Happily, she will usually nap at the gym if I take her right at nap time. So mama trains for a 5k, and Charlie plays, and Juliette takes a cozy nap in the swing, and then we all go home.

She is so mellow. I love it. She is totally comfortable being the third baby, and has started waking herself with no tears. She will just hang out in her bed and suck on her hands and kick around, and usually I have to just go in and get her because she just kind of hangs out. It is soooo wonderful to walk in there and see her little face light up as I reach for her. Oh my word. Melt melt melt.

OH! And as of two weeks ago (around 4.5 months) she is no longer a swaddle baby! I have to admit, it makes me a little sad not to wrap her in a burrito. But she showed us that she could roll over, and we decided it wasn't safe to swaddle her anymore, so now she has those cozy pajama bags over her pjs to keep her warm, and she sleeps with her arms out to her sides like a little T.

Eats a little more (5oz+) and a little less frequently. The past week she has sort of stretched out to a semi-four hour schedule, where she eats at or around 7am, 11am, 2:30pm, and 6:30pm. Some days there is an extra feeding in there, but for the most part she is happy with this amount of food. :) She still takes a bottle, though we give her one infrequently--usually about twice a week--and she's doing much better with her fast-flow bottles (she was very leaky at first).

She's starting to do all the little "food readiness" stuff, too, which we find hilarious/adorable--specifically smacking her lips and getting VERY wide-eyed as she watches us eat.

Wears six month sized clothes, still. She fits them perfectly. And she looks good in everything, of course.

Dislikes being dressed for bed. Somehow she knows, when we zip her into her jammie bag, that bedtime is coming. She immediately begins to whimper! She also cries when we lay her in bed, and occasionally when we sing her a lullaby and she suspects bedtime is nearing.

And, apparently, moving. She rolled over (as mentioned above) three times a few weeks ago, prompting us to unswaddle her for naps and bed, and she hasn't even attempted it since. But she is sleeping great unswaddled so that is nice. :) Her daddy is very anxious for her to get moving, but why move when you have four adoring servants to bring you toys/food/more toys?

Likes sucking her thumb--just like big sister! I don't know if it will last, but for the last week she has mostly fallen asleep with her thumb in her mouth.

She has totally got the grabbing-stuff skill down, and likes to hold on to any toy we suspend from her carseat, things she can half-roll (just on her side) to, and the toys dangling from the baby gym thingie. She also tried to grab some of Steve's lasagna off his plate the other day at dinner.

She likes to be held and to sit up (with support), staring at the TV, and being talked to and kissed and tickled. She likes diaper changes because our faces are nice and close and she is the center of attention. And we like her. :)
